Formed in December 1921 at a Baraza in Ludha, Central Nyanza by mission-educated Luo and Luhyia men to discuss issues affecting African communities.

๐Ÿค Government Response (1922)

After meetings with Nyanza PC (May 1922) and Governor Northey (July 1922 at Nyahera):

  • โœ… Agreed to close labor camps
  • โœ… Reduced taxation
  • โŒ Rejected revocation of Crown Colony Status

๐Ÿ”„ Transition to KTWA (1923)

Fearing ban (like EAA), Jonathan Okwiri handed leadership to Archdeacon Owen. Changes included:

  • ๐Ÿ†• Name change to Kavirondo Tax Payers and Welfare Association
  • ๐Ÿ”€ Shift from political to social issues:
    • ๐Ÿ€ Killing rats
    • ๐Ÿšฝ Digging latrines
    • ๐Ÿงน Keeping compounds clean
  • ๐Ÿ“ Adopted written memoranda for grievances
  • ๐Ÿ‘” All Nyanza chiefs made vice-presidents

1931 Split:

Luo Faction
Remained as KTWA
Luhya Faction
Formed North Kavirondo Central Association (NKCA), linked to KCA

NKCA Objectives:

  • ๐Ÿ’ต Demand compensation for taken lands

Final Decline:

By 1944, leaders were co-opted into colonial administration:

  • ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ Okwiri became chief
  • ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Owuor, Nyende, Okwiri joined LNC
  • โšฐ๏ธ KTWA became extinct
