STRAND 1.0: FOUNDATION OF COMPUTER STUDIES

Sub-Strand 1.2: Computer Organization and Architecture

Non-Formal Activities: Develop print or digital content to illustrate the organization of computer functional elements.


Sub-Strand 1.3: Input/Output (I/O) Devices

Assessment Methods: Rubrics, checklists, rating scales, observation Non-Formal Activities: Consult a resource person to demonstrate I/O devices.


Sub-Strand 1.4: Computer Storage

Assessment Methods: Observation schedules, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, questionnaires, projects, journals Non-Formal Activities: Debate the benefits of remote storage versus local computer storage.


Sub-Strand 1.5: Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Assessment Methods: Written tests, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral, aural Non-Formal Activities: Develop print or digital content to educate peers on the role of a CPU in a computer.


Sub-Strand 1.6: Operating System (OS)

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s Non-Formal Activities: Share experiences on the importance of operating systems in computing during clubs and societies.


Sub-Strand 1.7: Computer Setup

Assessment Methods: Observation schedules, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Develop print or digital content for use in sensitizing community members on how to set up a computer.


STRAND 2.0: COMPUTER NETWORKS

Sub-Strand 2.1: Data Communication

Assessment Methods: Written tests, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Debate the advantages and disadvantages of data communication modes.


Sub-Strand 2.2: Data Transmission Media

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Consult a resource person to demonstrate how to connect devices in a computer network.


Sub-Strand 2.3: Computer Network Elements

Assessment Methods: Observation schedules, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Develop print or digital content to educate community members on how to connect devices to a computer network.


Sub-Strand 2.4: Network Topologies

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation Non-Formal Activities: During a social gathering, simulate a physical network topology using available devices.


STRAND 3.0: SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Sub-Strand 3.1: Computer Programming Concepts

Assessment Methods: Written tests, oral questions, aural questions, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation Non-Formal Activities: Educate community members on the use of programming languages.


Sub-Strand 3.2: Program Development

Assessment Methods: Projects, written tests, anecdotal records, checklists, rating scales, observation schedules, questionnaires, journals, portfolios, oral questions, interview Non-Formal Activities: During clubs, share experiences on the significance of algorithms in problem solving.


Sub-Strand 3.3: Identifiers and Operators

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Develop print or digital content to educate peers on the role of identifiers and operators in programming.


Sub-Strand 3.4: Control Structures

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Sensitise peers on the of use of decision statements in problems solving.


Sub-Strand 3.5: Data Structures

Assessment Methods: Observation schedules, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Share with peers the experiences on the use of data structures in problem solving.


Sub-Strand 3.6: Functions

Assessment Methods: Checklists, rating scales, rubrics, observation schedules, questionnaires, projects, journals, portfolios, oral questions, aural questions, interview schedules, learner’s profile, written tests, anecdotal records. Non-Formal Activities: Share a video simulation of the components of function during computer club activities.
