1. The Birth of Jesus (Luke 2:6-20)

a) Description (6 marks)

  1. Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem for enrollment.
  2. Mary gave birth to her firstborn son.
  3. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes.
  4. He was laid in a manger.
  5. An angel appeared to the shepherds who were tending their flocks.
  6. The shepherds were afraid, but the angel brought them good news.
  7. A multitude of heavenly angels praised God.
  8. The shepherds went to Bethlehem and found everything as the angel had said.
  9. They returned, praising God.

b) Religious Practices Observed in the Life of Jesus (8 marks)

  1. Circumcision.
  2. Dedication.
  3. Attending synagogue at age 12.
  4. Offering prayers.
  5. Fasting.
  6. Presenting themselves to priests for cleansing after healing.
  7. Baptism.

c) Reasons for Youth Involvement in Worship (6 marks)

  1. To create awareness of God.
  2. To learn the true teachings of their church.
  3. To learn to obey and respect God.
  4. To model the example of Christ.
  5. To foster a sense of belonging in the Christian community.
  6. To improve their talents.
  7. To spend their leisure time positively.

2. The Temptations of Jesus in the Wilderness

a) Description (6 marks)

  1. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit after His baptism.
  2. He lived in the wilderness for forty days without food.
  3. The devil tempted Him to turn stones into bread.
  4. Jesus replied that man does not live by bread alone.
  5. The devil showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, offering them if Jesus would worship him.
  6. Jesus replied that only God should be worshipped.
  7. The devil took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple and urged Him to throw Himself down, claiming God would protect Him.
  8. Jesus stated that one should not tempt God.
  9. The devil eventually left Him.

b) Problems Encountered as a Result of Performing Miracles (7 marks)

  1. Accusations of using the power of the devil.
  2. Accusations of violating the Sabbath law.
  3. Crowds follow Him, some only seeking miracles.
  4. Jewish religious leaders plotting to kill Him.
  5. Accusations of blasphemy.
  6. Rejection in places where miracles caused loss (e.g., casting out demons from pigs).
  7. Exhaustion from constant demands.

c) Problems Faced by Christian Leaders in Kenya Today (7 marks)

  1. Opposition from political leaders.
  2. Lack of unity from the congregation.
  3. Presence of false prophets and cults.
  4. Misinterpretation of scripture.
  5. Inadequate pastoral care.

3. The Last Supper

a) Celebration with Disciples (7 marks)

  1. The disciples prepared the room as instructed by Jesus.
  2. Jesus expressed His longing to share the meal before His suffering.
  3. He blessed the cup and shared it with the disciples, stating He would not drink it again with them.
  4. He took bread, thanked God, broke it, and distributed it, symbolizing His body.
  5. He blessed the cup again, symbolizing the new covenant.
  6. The disciples were instructed to continue the meal in remembrance of Him.
  7. Jesus taught humility after a dispute arose about who was the greatest.
  8. He predicted Judas’ betrayal.

b) Ways the Resurrection Was Revealed (7 marks)

  1. An angel announced it to the holy women.
  2. The women informed the disciples.
  3. Jesus accompanied two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
  4. Simon Peter witnessed the empty tomb.
  5. Jesus appeared to the 11 disciples in Jerusalem.
  6. He invited Thomas to touch His wounds.
  7. Jesus appeared again to Simon Peter.

c) Lessons from the Repentant Thief (6 marks)

  1. To be humble.
  2. To accept sins and repent.
  3. To respect others.
  4. To recognize the innocence of others.
  5. To acknowledge the messianic identity of Christ.
  6. To correct those who are wrong.
  7. To be assertive.

4. Unity of Believers in the Church

a) Portrayal (7 marks)

  1. The church is the assembly of God.
  2. Paul compares the relationship of husband and wife to the unity in the church.
  3. Jesus is the head of the church, just as the husband is the head of the wife.
  4. The church is subordinate to Christ.
  5. The church should be united in Christ, analogous to the marriage bond.
  6. The union between the church and Christ is everlasting.
  7. Through Jesus, all Christians are united, regardless of differences.

b) Teachings About Love by St. Paul (8 marks)

  1. Love is a gift from God.
  2. It is the most important of all gifts.
  3. Love is patient and kind.
  4. It is not jealous or boastful.
  5. It is not rude or selfish.
  6. It does not keep a record of wrongs.
  7. It is not pleased with evil.
  8. Love is enduring and eternal.

c) Factors Enhancing Community Unity (5 marks)

  1. Organizing interdenominational prayers.
  2. Preaching love and forgiveness.
  3. Forming ecumenical movements (e.g., NCCK).
  4. Reconciling warring parties and promoting peace agreements.
  5. Encouraging youth movements in educational institutions.

5. Opposition to Abortion

a) Reasons (6 marks)

  1. Life is sacred and belongs to God.
  2. Abortion may lead to stillbirths and infections.
  3. It promotes sexual immorality in society.

  8. Establishing taboos around sexual relations.
  9. Engaging the entire community in moral concerns.
  10. Encouraging early marriages after initiation.

6. Promoting Law and Order

a) Traditional Practices (6 marks)

  2. Respect for lawful authority (chiefs, elders).
  3. Reprimanding wrongdoers.
  4. High observance of taboos.
  5. Initiating dialogues to resolve conflicts.

  2. Financial constraints on conservation efforts.
  3. Ignorance about the effects of pollution.
