MARKING SCHEME

1. Similarities between the Creation Accounts of Genesis 1 and 2 (10 mks)

  • God is portrayed as the sole creator of the universe and everything in it.
  • Man is given responsibilities and privileges to control animals, birds, and plants.
  • Creation includes both living and non-living things.
  • Human beings share in the life of God (1st creation: man is created in God’s image; 2nd creation: God breathed life into his nostrils).
  • God is the source and sustainer of life.
  • God existed before the creation activity.
  • Human beings are created male and female for a purpose.

2. Causes of Sin According to Genesis 3-11 (5 mks)

  • Desire to be like God/greed for power.
  • Disobedience of man/breaking of the commandments.
  • Lack of faith in God.
  • Convincing temptation from the serpent.
  • Anger and jealousy led Cain to kill Abel.
  • Man’s ambition to know good and evil.
  • Free will choice—God gave them a chance to choose obedience or disobedience.
  • Disrespect, as seen when Ham did not cover Noah.

3. Causes of Evil in Our Society (5 mks)

  • Poor role models.
  • Poverty/Wealth disparities.
  • Permissiveness/too much freedom.

4. The Call of Moses in Exodus 3:1-22 (8 mks)

  • Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, in the wilderness of Sinai.
  • He saw a burning bush that was not consumed.
  • Curious, Moses approached to see what was happening.
  • God called him by name and instructed him to not come closer.
  • God commanded Moses to remove his shoes, as he was on holy ground.
  • God revealed Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
  • Moses hid his face out of fear.
  • God informed Moses of the Israelites’ suffering in Egypt and sent him to deliver them.
  • Initially reluctant, Moses received God’s assurance of protection.
  • God revealed His name as “I am who I am” (Yahweh).
  • God foretold Pharaoh’s hardness of heart and promised favour for the Hebrews.

5. The Making of the Sinai Covenant (Exodus 24:3-18) (7 mks)

  • Moses told the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances.
  • The people agreed to do all that the Lord said.
  • Moses built an altar at the foot of the mountain and placed twelve pillars for the twelve tribes.
  • Young men offered burnt offerings and sacrifices of oxen to the Lord.
  • Moses poured half of the blood on the altar, symbolizing the covenant.
  • He read the book of the covenant to the people, who vowed to obey.
  • Moses sprinkled the remaining blood over the people, signifying the binding nature of the covenant.
  • God concluded the covenant ceremony by giving Moses two stone tablets with the laws.

  • Induction into Christian living.

  • Baal’s prophets prayed, screamed, and cut themselves but received no response.
  • Elijah ridiculed them, suggesting Baal might be sleeping or away.
  • Elijah repaired the altar of Yahweh, prepared a sacrifice, and soaked the altar with water.
  • He prayed to God to reveal Himself as the true God.
  • God answered with fire, consuming the sacrifice.
  • Elijah ordered the killing of Baal’s prophets.
  • As a result, many worshipped God.
  • Elijah prayed for rain, ending a three-year drought.
