- Married foreign wives/concubines:
Solomon had many wives from different nations, which was against the covenant as it led him astray from worshipping the true God. - Worshipped idol gods in old age:
Influenced by his foreign wives, Solomon turned to worshipping other gods, which was a direct violation of the covenant. - Murdered his half-brother Adonijah:
Solomon ordered the execution of Adonijah, which was an act of murder and against the moral laws of the covenant. - Taxed Israelites heavily:
He imposed heavy taxes on the Israelites, causing hardship and discontent among the people. - Disobeyed his father David’s instructions:
David had instructed Solomon to rely on God, but Solomon often relied on his own wisdom and political alliances. - Built places of worship for false gods:
Solomon constructed high places for the gods of his foreign wives, leading Israel into idolatry. - Subjected Israelites to forced labor/slavery:
During the construction of the temple and his palace, Solomon subjected the Israelites to forced labour, which was oppressive. - Signed treaties with neighbouring nations:
He made political alliances through treaties, often involving marriage, which compromised Israel’s distinctiveness and reliance on God. - Sold land to King Hiram of Tyre:
Solomon sold land to Hiram, which was seen as compromising the inheritance of the Israelites. - Spent more time building his palace than the temple of God:
