Saint Paul’s teaching on how the gifts of the Holy Spirit should be used in the Church is as follows:
- The gifts of the Holy Spirit should be used for the common good of all
- They should be used to strengthen/ encourage and comfort members
- They should be used to bring unity / not to discriminate/divide members
- There is a need to respect/appreciate all the gifts
- They should be used in an orderly way / no confusion
- The gifts should be used in love
- The gifts of speaking in tongues should be minimized in public
- There is a need to have an interpretation of tongues for them to be meaningful/helpful
- Prophecies should be carefully evaluated/weighed
