STRAND 2.0: COMPUTER NETWORKING
Sub Strand: 2.2 Data Transmission Media
Specific Learning Outcomes
By the end of the sub strand, the learner should be able to:
a) explain the terminologies used in data transmission,
b) describe the types of transmission media in computer networks,
c) connect computer devices using appropriate transmission media,
d) examine the transmission impairment in computer networks,
e) appreciate the role of transmission media in computer networking.
Suggested Learning Experiences
The learner is guided to:
- brainstorm the definition of elementary terms in data communication (transmission, transmission media, encoding, decoding, modulation, demodulation, multiplexing, demultiplexing),
- watch a video on types of transmission media,
- discuss the types of transmission media used in computer networks,
- use print or digital media to illustrate data transmission signals, multiplexing and demultiplexing,
- consult a resource person to demonstrate how to connect devices in a computer network using transmission media, while observing safety rules,
- demonstrate how data is transferred in a computer network using transmission media,
- share resources through connected computer devices through transmission media,
- discuss transmission impairment in computer networks,
- brainstorm ways of overcoming transmission impairments in a computer network,
- discuss the role of transmission media in computer networks.
Suggested Key Inquiry Question(s)
How is data transmitted in a transmission media?
Core Competencies to be Developed
Communication and Collaboration: The learner speaks engagingly while consulting a resource person to demonstrate how to connect devices in a computer network using transmission media.
Digital Literacy: The learner connects digital devices for communication using transmission media.
Values
Unity: The learner collaborates with others as they discuss the role of transmission media in computer networks.
Peace: The learner respects self and others as they discuss transmission impairment.
