The Triumphant Entry of Jesus to Jerusalem
(a) Description of the Triumphant Entry (Lk 19: 28-40)
When Jesus approached the towns of Bethphage and Bethany, He instructed two of His disciples to go ahead of Him. He told them to find a colt that had never been ridden and to bring it to Him. If anyone questioned why they were untieing the colt, they were to say that “the Master needs it.”
The disciples followed His instructions and brought the colt to Jesus. He rode on it as He entered Jerusalem, and the people began to lay their cloaks on the road as a sign of honor. A multitude of disciples rejoiced and praised God, proclaiming blessings upon the King who came in the name of the Lord. They sang, “Peace in Heaven and glory in the highest.”
However, some Pharisees in the crowd wanted to silence the disciples, but Jesus responded that if they were quiet, the stones would cry out in praise instead.
