- It was a place of worship/ prayers/ sacrifices.
- It was where major festivals were held.
- It was used as a treasury/ important objects were kept there/ foreign currency was exchanged there/ sacrificial animals were sold there.
- It was a source of unity among the people.
- Gave them a sense of security.
- It symbolized the presence of God among the people/ the Ark of the Covenant was kept there.
- It was where people were taught the law.
- It was used as a residence and training center for religious leaders.
- It was a place where religious disputes were settled/ law court/judicial court.
- It was a place where religious ceremonies/rites like dedication and purification were performed.
