In this story, a paralyzed man is brought to Jesus by his friends, who lower him through the roof of a house where Jesus is teaching because they cannot get through the crowded entrance.
Description of the Event
When Jesus sees the faith of the man’s friends, he tells the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” This statement causes controversy among the scribes present, who question Jesus’ authority to forgive sins. In response, Jesus asks them whether it is easier to say, “Your sins are forgiven,” or “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” To prove his authority, Jesus then tells the paralyzed man to take up his mat and walk.
